Function and form

Stepping into the recently refurbished showroom at Boston Wardrobes is an experience that will leave you inspired and eager to create more storage solutions.

By now, we’ve all heard the theory that maintaining a tidy home can significantly enhance mental and physical health. Studies are now showing that cluttered environments can raise stress hormones, hinder concentration and contribute to feelings of anxiety and depression. It has even been shown that a cluttered environment restricts the brain’s ability to focus and efficiently process information, resulting in elevated stress levels as well as feelings of being overwhelmed and reducing productivity.

Adding more home storage space can be life-changing to the way you live and the functioning of a house. Storage solutions play a crucial role in maintaining an organised home, which will help to reduce all of these negative impacts. Boston Wardrobes design custom storage systems to maximise space, improve accessibility, and enhance the value and aesthetics of your home.

It can be difficult to envision storage options, but Boston Wardrobes make it easy with an extensive range on show and expert assistance to help solve storage woes. Visitors can see exactly what they will get with the many examples that line the large showroom space.

Known for their quality, Boston Wardrobes enjoys repeat business from all over Auckland. Its motto is “better living through organisation”, which it has been helping Kiwi homeowners achieve since 1987.

Boston Wardrobes focuses on making wardrobes and doors to custom-fit Auckland’s bungalows and villas. Traditionally, these styles of homes don’t have enough storage space, so Boston Wardrobes developed a suite of solutions that suits the house era. They also work with new builds – apartments, multi-dwellings and retirement homes – with their new wardrobe products, such as the popular Viva.

The long-standing business has recently changed hands to Dave Wenham and with the new ownership, the company has had a significant tidy-up of its own. There’s a new manufacturing plant in Avondale, a newly painted exterior and a refurbed showroom.

Dave says he was attracted to buying the business due to its reputation as a reliable, good-quality brand. He knew nothing about wardrobe manufacturing, but says the team of 30 have made the transition easy. He considers himself lucky to have inherited the professional people who already worked for Boston Wardrobes. “Our people are very good at what they do and I have left them to continue to do that,” he says.

Dave says that as home values continue to appreciate, people are looking for more functionality and style. Historically, there has been a focus on kitchens and bathrooms, but “we have seen the movement to home storage, wardrobes and doors. It needs to look good and be functional,” says Dave.

Not only is the showroom a great resource, but the design process involves renders (lifelike drawings) so the customer can see exactly what they are going to get. Boston Wardrobes works collaboratively with the customer, visiting their site, measuring up, designing the product with functionality and style, then manufacturing and installing.

“With our custom design, we make sure it fits and suits our customer’s environment.”

Viva Wardrobes

Boston Wardrobes are seeing a huge demand for our new Viva system, Boston’s freestanding wardrobe option. Viva is designed for homes that don’t have in-built wardrobe space - so common in older dwellings. The premium unit is solid with hinged doors, custom-built for the space and fixed to the wall. It can be installed by the Boston Wardrobes’ team with minimal preparatory work, including no need for building. Viva units can be personalised through the use of colour, bespoke handles, or detail panels such as tongue and groove or shaker style.

Villa Doors

Due to the high volume of Villa and Bungalow restorations, Boston Wardrobes see a lot of homeowners needing to improve the functionality of their house while maintaining the traditional aesthetic. Boston Wardrobe’s Villa doors are perfect for these situations. The range is made to measure, available in sliding or bi-fold options and can be painted any colour to suit the interior of the home.
