Grow Differently Together
The Uptown Recreation Centre (URC) in Uptown, Tamaki Makaurau, holds significant importance as a community sports and recreation center.
With its flexible and dynamic program, it encourages physical activity and promotes well-being. It works in conjunction with the 6 Uptown Pillars, offering facilities such as a swimming pool, multi-functional basketball court, gym, dance studio, community meeting spaces, and athlete accommodation.
Te Parirau (The Wing) is a community centre focused on creating a connection between tamariki (child), rangatahi (youth), kaumatua (aged), and the natural environment to foster the imagination and creativity of Kiwis. Te Parirau provides facilities to explore potential avenues of hobbies and career paths.
I believe being intentional with grounding ourselves in atmosphere will help us to shift to a sense of Mauri Ora in Uptown.
This would allow Uptown to no-longer be bypassed or overlooked as a precinct, but instead, be a thriving neighbourhood that fulfils its six vision pillars. I wanted to challenge the observed individualistic social culture within Uptown and question, are we able to dwell in atmosphere, a very individual experience, socially?
