 Connected Communities

The influx of new apartments and the arrival of the new City Rail Link service in 2024 means more people in the Uptown precinct. How will transport options change in Uptown to meet the evolving needs of the neighbourhood?

The Uptown Business Association is advocating on behalf of the businesses and people in the neighbourhood. We encourage all interested to participate in the consultation process.

Connected Communities is Auckland Transport’s (AT) program to upgrade and improve transport options
on arterial routes across the city.

Auckland is growing fast, and AT need to ensure that transport is fit for the future and can cater for all users. In developing this project, AT want to help businesses and communities in meeting their individual needs. If they do nothing, this would mean that the New North Road corridor (a key Auckland arterial) becomes more constrained and congested. The impacts of traffic and growth would eventually impact on the success of the town centres.

There are 12 corridors identified for improvement, and the current focus is on these routes: New North Road Corridor, Manukau Road Corridor, Mt Eden Corridor and Ellerslie-Panmure Corridor.

The New North Road Corridor includes the Learning Quarter, Uptown (including Symonds Street), Kingsland, Morningside, St Lukes, Mount Albert, and Avondale.

Collaboration and Consultation

Over the past six months Auckland Transport has been engaging with community collaboration
panels and stakeholders, including business representatives. They've heard feedback on issues and
heard local insights, and this has helped shape the early concepts and outcomes for the project.

Building on earlier feedback received and community collaboration, Auckland Transport plans to publicly consult with
the Uptown community on proposed options, early in 2022, and would like your involvement.
