5. 1863 Section 10 sale, Allot 10
No Name. This sale bears no owners name, but called was West Newtown.
The site fronted onto Karangahape Road, which was, in 1863, named the Great North Road, and adjoined Mr Starks land. Here Edinburgh, Dublin, and London (Oxford, then Ophir) Streets were formed.
On this sale’s Lithograph plan Frederick Whitaker’s name plus streets on Whitakers land also joined Dublin St (now Cobden). Mr Whitaker subdivision sale however did not occurred until 1864, suggesting that the neighbors were working together to open up their land to expand Newtown.
