8. 1865 Mr William Morrin, Allot 7

Mr William Morrin was a wine merchant in Queen St. His four acres of land in the gully was wedged between Lauries’ and Fred Whitaker’s land and had lain fallow over the time that he had owned it.

Mr Morrin had bought four acres of land from the Messrs Laurie. In 1865 he subdivided his land into 45 allotments ready for sale. Both Upper Queen and Upper Pitt Streets ran through his land which is now the heart of the Newton Motorway Interchange. Canada St was named in dedication of where he grew up as a boy.
